MAY 5th 2018 RON BAKER MEMORIAL RESULTS
Blair doubles plus Shelly, Canfield and Skinner get first ever MCFR wins!
Saturday night was not just the first inaugural race for the new McKean County Family Raceway but a night of first! The night kicked off at just before 6pm with a round of hot laps for the Super late models and the RUSH crate late models. The Super late models were not originally on the schedule but with other local track’s cancelling MCFR took the gamble to add them and it paid off!
Pure stocks kicked off the night. Dennis Hathaway of Portville, NY in the 27 car and Ken Shelly of Smethport, PA in the 57 car won heat 1 and 2. In the RUSH Crate Late Model’s the 24 of Paul Grigsby of East Concord, NY and the 27 of Eric Wilson of Cortland, OH getting the wins for heats 1 and 2. Mini stock heat rolled our next with the 32H Holden Heineman of Delevan, NY getting the win. That heat got a little hot when the 23 car driven by Billy Williams went up in smoke with flames showing. Luckily, he got out fast and wasn’t hurt. The Promod/ Economod class was next with the 42 car driven by Steve Dixon of Smethport, PA taking home the win in heat 1 and Eric Wilson of Cortland, OH taking home the win in heat 2 and his second heat win of the night. Super Late model heats were next in the lineup with the 28 of John Lobb of Frewsburg, NY and the 111 Max Blair of Titusville, PA taking home the wins for heats 1 and 2. The 69 Dusty Skinner of West Clarksville, NY rounded out our heats with a win in the kid’s class.
The pure stocks sure got the crowd’s blood pumping for the night! Side by side racing! Passing and two blown motors, one when the 05 of Jake Mascho was going for the lead! Talk about excitement. The 57 Ken Shelly of Smethport, PA and the 11 Mark Schweikart of Port Allegany, Pa put on a show there is no doubt. After Mascho’s motor blew it left the 11 and 57 to battle it out for the lead and that they did. On the last lap in the middle of turns 3 and 4 both cars spun and ended up going through the infield. Neither car touched each other, both just racing hard for the win. Ken Shelly came out on top though for his FIRST ever win at McKean! He RUSH crate late models kept that blood pumping when they came out for the 3rd annual Ron Baker Memorial race. Brady Wonderling of Scio, NY in the 2R and Max Blair in the 111 fought hard the whole race. A caution with 3 laps to go ended the race on a green, white, checkered and Max Blair was the one who crossed the line first. Max is the 3rd different driver to win the Ron Baker Memorial, with Eric Wilson winning the first year and John Waters winning it the second.
Number 33 Eric Canfield of Smethport, PA ran away with the mini stock feature to get his first ever feature win at McKean! He led from the green flag to the checkered. Holden Heineman in the 32H came up through the pack to chase him down but just ended up running out of laps.
In the promod/ economod class Steve Dixon piloting the 42 machine of Tom McFall’s lead almost all 20 laps, not that he didn’t have challengers. Dennis Lunger in the 71L of Albion, PA almost had the lead tied up until he broke. With around 3 laps to go there was a caution because the headers flew off the 27 car of Eric Wilson. With one lap to go he passed the 55x Billy Deming Jr of Scio, Ny for second place. It was a crazy race with parts flying everywhere.
The Super Lates saw Doug Eck of Corry, PA in the Terry Suppa 4s leading strong for the first part of the race until he went a little too high in turn 4 and that opened the door for the 111 of Max Blair to take the lead and never look back. Even though the race was riddled with cautions, and even some tempers flaring, Blair held onto the lead for his second win of the night!
The kids class saw a good race with some new faces! The 16 Josh Isamen of Knapp’s Creek, Ny led almost the whole race until on the last lap something happened to his car and the 69 Dusty Skinner of West Clarksville, Ny was able to finally get by him and get his first McKean feature win!!! Our third first feature win of the night!
We at MCFR cannot thank all of the sponsors, Racers, Fans and Workers enough for your support!
